Samoyed Dogs - Description

Samoyeds are working dogs with a compact and muscular body. The Samoyed's thick and harsh coat comes in white, biscuit, cream and yellow. Its coat protects the Samoyed from the arctic cold. The head is rather broad with a muzzle of medium length. The nose is black or brown. The jaws are strong. The slanting eyes are dark and deep. The medium-sized ears are carried erect and somewhat rounded at the point. The dog's long tail is carried rolled on the back. The legs are muscular.

Samoyeds are gentle and affectionate. They are easy-going, friendly and playful. The Samoyed tends to be friendly to all. Therefore, Samoyeds are of little use as watchdogs, although their barks will alert you to the presence of strangers.

The dog willingly adapts to family life and gets along well with children. Samoyeds are highly intelligent, but often willfully resistant to formal obedience training. They usually respond to firm, patient training, which should be started at an early age. Samoyeds are accustomed to working in teams.

Samoyeds have a reputation of being chewers and may become very destructive if left alone for many hours at a stretch. Samoyeds generally get along with other pets and tend to bark a lot.

Life Expectancy: Samoyeds live up to 12-15 years.
