Samoyed Dogs - Maintenance
Samoyeds have a double coat, which consists of a wooly undercoat and guard hairs that are longer. The Samoyed sheds twice a year and a shedding period is rather intense. Regular thorough brushings and occasional bathing are the sufficient means of keeping the Samoyed clean and healthy. The Samoyed is a clean and odor free dog. It is known to clean itself like cats do. Their white coat tends to stay white without frequent bathing.
Samoyed Dogs - Exercise Needs
With Samoyeds, it is important to start training early. This breed needs plenty of exercise and interaction. Mushing, frequent walks, playing and hikes are excellent activities for a Samoyed in which to be involved.
Do not allow a puppy to do things you do not want to deal with in an adult dog. The Samoyed is a pronounced pack-oriented dog. Its owner or handler has to establish himself as a leader, that is, the head of the pack. Obedience training will teach the Samoyed basic rules of behavior.
Samoyed Dogs - with Children
Samoyeds are good family dogs and their disposition makes them do well with children. However, even well socialized Samoyeds should be closely supervised when with children. Patient and friendly, Samoyeds are also powerful dogs that need to be under control.
