Friendliness to strangers makes these dogs poor guardians, but they may bark warning you about intruders. Formal obedience training is not suited for this breed, as it is very independent and intelligent and gets bored of drill and repetitions.

Like most northern breeds, these dogs are peaceable and dignified. They are usually devoted to one person only, but are gentle to other people. These dogs do well with children and other pets and adapt easily to any household. The samoyed puppy should receive training while still at the breeders kennels.
